4L60E or T56
Ok so my Z is a A4 and im about to do a head and cam swap so im going to need to get a stall and get the trans built since 4L60E are so shitty. So i always wanted a M6 so im thinking about swapping to a T56 my question is how much slower would it be then a stalled A4 on the street not the track i know the stalled auto would be faster at the track cuz my car might only see the track once a year. so plese help me make my decision i been looking this up for three months and finally got the money but havnt decide

My car was an A4 with a 3200 stall and it would absolutely kill on the street...an M6 is going to have trouble on the street with a lot of hp. especialy on spray. If all youre doing is street racing and arent going long highway distances I would do what i did after my 2nd 4L60 went and put in a TH400...the best thing ive ever done to my LS1 other than long tubes and an intake and spray. But thats my opinion.

same here
I posted a tread that you might want to check out. I have been asking the same question except I'm building my car for circuit racing and I have broken my second 4L60E now. Granted both the transmissions were stock. The first original with my car and the second used out of a 97 Trans Am. Then again I'm rolling a barely post-stock LT-1 and have broken two stock trans I have wanted a M6 as well and for circuit I see it being better a choice I think but still not sure and it will be fast auto or manual none the less. Check the thread and tell me what you think. It's called broken 4L60E#2

Yea dude i say your post LTtorque will im pretty sure a stalled auto is going to be faster on the street or strip but i wonder how much slower a M6 is with a good driver would be compared to a stalled auto with the same mods cuz im going to have to spend a couple grand on a built tranny so a 4L60E which is know to break offten and deal with a lose stall or a T56 that will last longer except a clutch and my goals/dreams is a true 10 sec car

if youre wanting a true 10 second car then go auto...more consistent...ive seen way to many of my friends build a bad *** LS1 with a manual and get consistently beatin by an auto...Im a big fan of the TH350 or 400 swaps now...but if u want to keep the OD then go 4L80E.

Yea i know auto = track and it might see the track once a year other then that street racing fun i mean i would like to shift my own gears but just dont know how much it gonna cost me performance wise and i dont know if i will like the loseness in a 3600 stall and just seem like autos to easy to break but the more i read about a stall it sounds like a huge diff when u floor it like crazy fast lol It just such a hard decision lol thanks for replying everyone and ls1fst98

from a roll a well driven 6 speed car will leave a auto car. Lets say 40mph, the M6 will be "faster". This has been beaten to death honestly, auto will win races and be "quicker" but stick will be the funnest on the street and have killer top end. Only thing about stick is that its a bitch to get out of the hole since the rear end will be the weak link and also it will be inconsistent. I say if you like running on the street and messing around 6 speed, if you are a guy that likes red lights and bracket/ drag racing, stick to a nicely built stalled auto...jus dont expect crazy MPH up top. The two are for different setups and different combos so its all up to you, you will drive it everyday, so you gotta weigh all the options and decide what YOU like and what you see yourself doing with the car in the future

or you can go manual valve bodys and have the fun of still shifting gears minus the clutch...and yes from a roll a 6 spd should be faster...but i dont know about you but around here we leave the roll racing to supras and hondas...but all in all yes it doeas come down to personal preference...i love driving my buddys 6spds but ill take my built, stalled, manual valve bodied auto...
