...but why isn't there an increase in engine temps with a trans cooler mounted onto and partially obstructing the radiator?

I am no expert but it probabley just ends up causeing your cooling fans to run a little more which would make up for the loss of cooling surface. Takes more fan time to cool the engine coolant if you have less natural cooling ability by the radiator. Just my logical guess.

Well unless your in a very warm climate this time of year and your not lol cold tonight burr , Then all your cooling would be overkill in this weather,

Performabuilt, I'm about twenty minutes away from you

I'm not just talking about using a cooler in the wintertime though. I once had a sandwich bag stuck onto my radiator and my engine temps spiked. Yet it seems that a majority of people have a trans cooler mounted over a part of their radiator but I never hear about overheating problems.

Well by design a good potion of the air actually travels through the cooler unlike the sandwich bag lol that blocks the air completely.

Now that I think more about it, if you are driving down the road I doubt the fans play a big role in increasing cooling, probabley just the stat keep the temp regulated and that is also true about air flowing through not being totally blocked.

in my camaro i have noticed that while my trans cooler makes my trans run cooler unfortunately it has taken some of the cooling away from my motor and it runs hotter.

With my car, cooler in front of the radiator, 160 stat with PCM set accordingly, I saw no difference, even on hot days.

The fans shut off at like 35mph or something where they actually pull air slower than you would be driving and create an obstruction.
