Default Converter Bolts Too Long

Ok... Did a transmission swap tonight.

Bolt everything up, fill it up with fluid, start it up... clank clank clank.

WTF????

Check it over, add more fluid. Try again.

clank clank clank

WTF???? Climb down underneath... check the converter / flywheel bolts... and they are loose... but they are tight. Yep... my damn converter bolts are too long.

Had a Yank ST3500 converter in there... and it was fine, never any noise. Put a Midwest in and the bolts are too long.

Anyway... need new bolts... where can I get them?

Before the Yank... I had a Vig.
Maybe the bolts are for the vig... I dunno.

But regardless... I need new bolts. They have a 13mm head... not sure on the bolt size or thread pitch.

If the bolts are bottoming in the nut just grind the end off them. If there is not enough thread on the bolt try a lock washer (star type would be best) Check your clearances after the mod.

You did use the right bolts, I hope. They are shorter than normal. Stubby little buggers, I call them.

lol... stubby little buggers...

Actually these are rather long.

The went right into the Yank converter I have, so I didnt think anything of it.

Gonna go bolt shopping today.

it is also safe to use locking spacers to give you that additional clearance.
i had to pull out my vig when i sheared all 3 of the bolts connecting the converter to the flexplate and have it repaired. ended up requiring a new pump and then some small welds. upon trying to reinstall in however; all 3 of the bolts were too long and i had the same problem.
Started it up and "CLANK CLANK CLANK". pulls so much timing that it wouldnt run. put the locking spacers in there which we figured was the better alternative to grinding bolts and had no issues with it since. best of luck. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
