Paging TH400 guys options questions within
I have a friend with a 99 Camaro Z-28 looking to put a TH400 into his car. He (Jeff) has spec'ed out several options but needs to know what is necessary and what is overkill...
He is definitely getting good clutches and bands, 2.75 first gear, transbrake, reverse man valvebody.
Is a billet input shaft necessary at the 8-9 second power levels? Is the billet lighter than the standard piece?
Alum drum versus steel?
What tailshaft length is necessary for the LS1?
What converter choice? he is looking at ~4200 stall.
Deep oil pan necessary? He is getting a big external cooler for the trans.
Thanks for any help you guys can provide!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Cheers,
Chris

Hmm I got a kit from Yank. IT came with driveshaft Race th400, mount for STOCK torque arm and convertor for 3000+. Mine had 2.75 first and transbrake. man mines 3600 and feel really loose. 4200 would probably be reving like 3300 all the time to get moving good.
IMO the 2.75 first gear is not necessary. Everyone I know that had the 2.75 first gear had temperature problems. Not to mention the fact that it is not as strong as the standard first gear. Also, unless the converter is just right there will be too big of an RPM drop between 1st and 2nd. Transbrake is a must as are the good clutches and band. Just remember there will be no engine braking with a reverse manual valvebody in 1st and 2nd gear. Billet input shaft is not necessary. You need the short tailshaft. I dont recommend aftermarket pans b/c they tend to leak. Just get the GM truck pan...it has a little extra capacity. The converter has to be matched to the motor like with any other setup. I have a 4600 stall 9" Art Carr converter but then again my car is one of those race cars that gets driven on the street.
Good Luck
