Pro 5.0 install help Please!!!!
Hey guys just a quick question here. After pulling off the snap off shifter boot there is that other rubber boot under there. Is that the one you cut to the Pro 5.0 Template?? or do you just remove it all together?? Please respond I'm in the middle of the project right now. <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

To be honest - I didn't cut either one. The boot that screws into the floorboard shouldn't be a factor and the boot that slides down over the shifter should cover it and not bind with no problems. I just did the install of a pro 5.0 on my 94 Z28 two weeks ago.
the instructions are for both mustangs and camaro's so take that into consideration.

I installed mine two days ago. I thought about not cutting the boot, then realized that if I didn't, then dirt from underneath the car could get inside the shifter. Took two minutes to cut.

Not to be that argumentative guys, but the pro 5.0 shifter is fairly well sealed unlike the old after market hursts used to be. If you are concerned with dirt, you can dynomat underneath the boot but I am a huge fan of not cutting on your car/accessories unless absolutely necessary. Be careful setting up your stops especially on the newer T-56's

I cut the top boot, the big one. You cut a hole in it so that you can tuck it in under the base. Otherwise, if you install the top boot so that the only thing you see is the handle sticking out, the big boot will get cramped between the shift lever and the stops causing you not to be in gear completely.
Do yourself a favor, cut the top boot and tuck it under the base. When you are finished, the entire shifter from the circular base up-should be exposed. There should be nothing getting in the way of your shifting other than the leather console boot.

Yes! Cut the big boot that screws into the floor. I didn't when I first installed mine because it didn't seem necessary because the shifter seemed to fit through it fine. After a couple of months I took the boot off to make sure the shifter bolts were still tight and there was a bunch of black stuff that looked like dirt in the grease of the shifter. The shifter arm makes contact with the bottom side of the boot and grinds the rubber off every shift which causes rubber specs to get in the grease. BTW it also gives the shifter a better feel once the boot is cut-less resistance.
