Default Why can't I lock up on the dyno?

Just a question I've scratching my head for a while and never got a straight answer. Tuner have told me that some cars do that. But I'm curious if I can fix this problem. Since my tranny won't lock up on the dyno would that affect the tuning on the road or at the track? It does fine on the road and the track. Of course if it does I want to fix it and maximize the potential of my car if I can fix it. I'm going to put it on the dyno again after the upgrade of my H/c swap. Anyone know what causes this?

It might be because the front wheel sensors aren't spinning.

Yes its as safe or safer than doing it through the PCM use a breakout box or make one, To use in place of the PCM to control the trans , Though it really dosent need to be complicated . You will need some wire, couple switches and and old trans harness. You unplug the trans from the car harness and plug it in. This will leave you in third gear and with the switches you can turn on the TCC solenoid and the PWM solenoid and make full lockup. Note you will set multiple trans codes from having the trans harness unpluged that will need to be cleared when you are done.
Always remember though no matter how its done there are risk to locking the converter and running in third gear on the dyno at max HP to both the converter clutch and the 3-4 clutch set as they were not designed to do that for any exstended period and the lockup clutch was never designed to lockup at WOT ever.

You would be better to post that question in the tuning section, Some would say if you comand it to lock it should but I have also heard many say thats not the case and I am no tuner

You can command it to lock up at WOT in tuning. But be cautious about the converter, you can fry one very quickly if it is not designed for that. Multi disk units can handle that, anything else will fail eventually.

Tuner said that he can't lock up the converter. I have a PT4k stall. I know this TC is pretty tough.

This may be a little off topic but I'm gonna ask anyway. What is the purpose of locking the converter on the dyno?

Basically to get true RWHP without the converters inherent slip making it lower, Though the car is actually faster unlocked . Mostly for tuning or getting those high numbers like the t56 guys get

I was really hoping to hear that there is some legit reason that I am missing, other than an inflated dyno number.

Not really other than it can make the numbers a little more stable while tuning

I'm trying to get everything tuned out. I don't want to leave anything on the table. I can always do a street tune Nothing on the tranny can be done to fix this problem? Is it really a tuning issue then? Or something w/ the tranny? I care less about dyno numbers becuz A4 are no dyno queen.

Well If lockup does work normally then likley theres some issue in tuning no allowing lockup to occur. Now on the other hand if lockup wont happen period then there may be and issue with the lockup solnoid or the PWM solenoid or even the converter itsself ,Does the converter lockup in normal driving ?

Then its in the tuning as to why it wont lock at WOT then .
