Default Tranny cooler question

In a few months i'm relocating to Vandenberg AFB, CA. It's a semi-hilly area to and from base. I was wondering if i should invest in a tranny cooler for my 02 TA?

A trans cooler is allways a good investment no matter where you live

The bigger the cooler the better. Make sure to get a plate and fin style cooler. Much more rigid than the cheap tube and fin style. Also the plate and fin style will cool better and have less of a pressure drop. Vince

When you install it, just be sure and remove the stock radiator "cooler" out of the loop.

I wouldn't do that. Tie the cooler into the return line coming from the radiator, and use both.

Please justify.
I bypass the radiator, and run 180-190 when running hard, and less when not running hard.

I didn't say you can't by pass the factory cooler, just that you might as well use both. What is the advantage to by passing the factory cooler? If your coolant temperature is 170~, and trans fluid at 190, the factory cooler can take some heat out of the trans fluid. With an aftermarket cooler on the return side of the factory cooler, you can bring the temps down further. Just my .02

Makes perfect sense to me. I'll probably invest in one this year and maybe a shift kit also.
