trans finally dead
trans finally dead i think first gear feels ok, but 2nd flares up and doesnt really pick up any speed, 3rd kinda works but at 4000 rpms i'm only at about 50mph in 3rd. 4th i dont think i've been able to make it into yet. And no lock-up.
this was all on a normal drive. Fluid smells really burnt now.
So do i have to replace the converter and cooler? or can the cooler be flushed?
I still have another built trans to put in but i need to know if i gotta buy a new converter quick.

It would definatly be a good idea to at least have the converter cut and checked out

mine goes into first and second but wont go into third. i think the car needs a pcm tune, because a shift kit and more mods were put on it but the pcm is still on stock tune. the tranny is a monster kit and only has 15,000 miles on it. think i need new tranny or wait for the tune? maybe linkage or shifter could be the problem? liquid is pinkish and smells very normal.

Today I was driving it and it seems like when i hit the gas, the engine revs high, but almost like it is in neutral. And then I will feel the gear itself kick in a give me more power. My car is really quiet as the engine revs but once something kicks in or whatever, the exhaust is loud like it normally is and the car picks up and then shifts to second, but still stays in second.
It sounds like what I just went through, the 3/4 clutch pack went kaput. might be time to have it rebuilt, or but a new one. have your trans shop check it out. all 3 of you have similar troubles it sounds like.
Autos have clutches in them , He is refering to the 3-4 clutch set inside the trans

yeah, 3-4 clutches definitely gone in mine. I actually have 1st and 2nd working, but 3rd and 4th are gone. a shitty 2-3 shift was the precursor for this. Always had to let off a little at the track to get it to go into 3rd.

Verdad Gallardo Thats what mine did, to fully rebuild it with shift kit z pak and other misc things it cost me 1300, and if you have a nother stock trans just put that in until you can get a rebuild or a new one.

Are you serious? 1300? That is a lot man. My monster kit trans only has 15000 miles on it. It was working fine until the other day when the reverse didn't work and then when i got reverse back, that is when 3 and 4 didn't work. the thing is that i bought the car with all these mods and the pcm wasn't tuned to the mods. its actually a 94 ta gt with a 95 stock ta pcm in it. the car seems really confused and the shifting is really late and hesitant. i sent in the pcm to get tuned to my mods, do you think this might be the prob, or do i need to put the other trans in?
1300 is alot but thats my only means of transportation so I needed it fixed asap. If you can take it to a reputable shop and have them diagnos it. when mine was doing out I originally thought it was pcm, but after tinkering with it I found out it was the 3-4. but if you have a spare and some buddies to help id swap out the funkered up trans.
ps. it was also purchase and install of a tranny cooler, install my new converter and trans temp gauge and a few minor things.
