Default removing the input shaft checkball w/ converter swap?

vig is recommending removing the checkball from the input shaft when you install the converter for firmer TCC lockup. this sounds good to me just wondering how many people have actually done this and with what results? i will also be intalling trans go shift kit and tranny cooler.
TIA

Definitely do it unless you are a grandma type who complains about firm shifts and what not and created most of the problems we have to fix on our trannys <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />

This causes the converter lock-up to engage with a nice solid thump...

if it was up to me these things would come stalled/built from the factory. having read thousands of threads on converters i had never heard of anyone removing the checkball. i think a nice thump would be benefical to TCC life expectancy in the same MO the shift kits work under. just wanted to make sure everything was kosher.

Its in the very end of the input shaft. There is a checkball inside a capsule with the ends crimped partially closed to allow fluid flow, but not enough opening for the ball to come out. If you stick a Phillips screwdriver in it sideways and pry on the bent portion of the tangs, you'll be able to open them right up and roll the ball out. Leave the capsule in the tranny, as it has a sized orifice at the aft end. If you drive the screwdriver DIRECTLY perpendicular into the capsule like would be most people's first thought though, you'll drive the capsule itself backward into the input shaft.
