trans cooler necessity

I don't care what coverter you've got, you should ALWAYS use a cooler, IMO. <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />
Hell, I even put a cooler on with my stock TC, but with a higher stall it should be a given.

Cooling that tranny down some is ALWAYS a good idea (I know....can get too cold but not often). If I'm right, don't the A4s have a small cooler that goes into the engine radiator (I know my old Intrepid had that)? If so, then adding another tranny cooler will keep from putting as much heat into the engine fluid and will help the engine run cooler.

If your trans fluid runs from the trans to the external cooler to the radiator cooler back to the tranny, then the radiator fluid will heat your trans fluid. (stock application)
