Default Acceptable Tranny temps?

I did a search for ths info and couldnt find what i was looking for, just after esults of tranny coolers and deep pan results.

I was logging some ATAP runs lastnight. Mostly city driving and some WOT passes. Alot of sitting around also and 30-40mph driving.

At one point I saw 239. Isnt this a tad high? I am getting a cooler here soon before my TCI 3500 install. What is acceptable temps?

Thanks

239 is way too high.

I like to keep the temps between 160 and 180. I stop racing when it goes over 200.

I checked the fluid, its still pink. The tranny was just rebuilt. I did find something interesting when I chcked the fluid. With the car running and cold after startup this morning, it was reading "hot" on the dipstick. Shouldnt it be down on the 80 degree mark when you startup?

What would cause the temps to get that high? The temps were around 160-170 when we started loggin and slowly started creepin up. Maybe a combo of low dollar fluid from the shop that rebuilt it or the lack of a tranny cooler.

Your temps are probably that high because you have stock fan settings, and no cooler besides the stock one.

With a deep pan, a 16,000gvw cooler, and my fans running constantly after 185* (coolant temp), my trans is usually in the 16X to 17X range while cruising in the summer, and 180-200 after doing a bunch of WOT shifts depending on outside temp.

For racing, above 200 = not so good. Above 210 = REALLY not so good. IMO.

Thanks for the info.

I am getting ls1edit next week, and putting in TCI 3500 w/ BM 24,000gvw cooler, so it should get better.

Im gonna do the cooling fan mod t-morow though.

After a full burnout and pass I am typically at 205-210. I can't avoid that. I will sometimes do two runs in a row, but by the time I get back to the lanes after the first pass, even if the lanes are short (like at US41) I will be at 190-195F and that's okay. But I cannot do a 3rd pass because the temps will start to creep past 210F and I'd rather not risk it.

I consider 225F to be excessive.

A stock car will be at like 225F after a pass, and a buddy was like at 250F after hotlapping a few times.
