I LIVE IN NAPLES FL AND I WORK FOR MERCEDES BENZ AS A TECHNICIAN. I ALSO WORKED FOR SAAB,VW, AND GM IN THE PAST. I ALSO OWN 2
1994 CHEVY CAMAROS THAT ME AND MY WIFE DRIVE.
I GOT A STRANGE PROBLEM WITH CAMARO THAT I DRIVE. 2 DAYS AGO MY STARTER WANTED TO STAY
ENGAGED WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME FOR LUNCH.
I DIDNT KNOW UNTIL I PULLED UP IN THE DRIVE WAY AND I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. WHEN I OPENED UP THE HOOD I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE STARTER AND MY ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE BUT IT WOULD NOT FIRE UP. I LET CAR SIT FOR 3MIN WHILE CALLED MERCEDES ROAD SIDE ASISTENCE TO COME PICK ME UP. AFTER 3MIN THE CAR STARTED UP
BUT I SHUT IT OFF SO NOTHING ELSE WOULD HAPPEN.THE NEXT DAY I DROVE THE CAR TO THE SHOP SO I COULD CHANGE THE STARTER. AFTER I CHANGED THE STARTER I NOTICED SOMETHING ELSE.
WHEN I DRIVE IN ANY FOWARD GEAR AND RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR NO LONGER COAST DOWN.
LETS SAY I PUT THE CAR IN 1ST GEAR AND TAKE THE ENGINE UP TO 4000 RMP, WHEN I RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL THE ENGINE RPM SHOULD GO DOWN SLOWLY SINCE ITS IN 1ST GEAR. BUT WHEN I DO THIS IN ANY FOWARD GEAR, ITS LIKE GOING FROM 1ST TO NEUTRAL OR DISENGAGING THE CLUTCH ON A MANUAL TRANS INSTED OF LETTING THE ENGINE SLOW THE CAR DOWN. I GOT THIS TRANSMISSION FROM TCI 2 YEARS AGO AND ITS GOT 40K MILES ON IT. THE FLUID AND FILTER HAS BEEN CHANGE TWICE
AND ITS CLEAN. THE FUNNY THING IS THAT IT DOES NOT SLIP AND CHIPS THE TIRES AS IT UPSHIFTS TO 3RD. IT DOES SEEM THAT IT LACKS SOME OF THE PUNCH THAT IT USE TO HAVE. I DROVE AROUND TODAY WITH MY SCANER BUT I CANT FIND ANYTHING WRONG NOT EVEN ANY DTCS. I EVEN SWAPED OUT PCMS WITH MY WIFES CAR. IS THIS A TRANS PROBLEM OR DO I SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON? I WOULD HAVE CALLED SOME OF THE PEOPLE I USE WORK WITH BUT SOME OF THEM DISAPERED AND SOME OF THEM DIED FROM ALCOHOL ABUSE. I ALSO CALLED TCI AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM BEFORE. PLEASE HELP!!!

I would imagie theres and issue with the overun clutch, Not related to the starter of course. But its either burned or other wise bad or the smaller section of the input sprags teeth have broken off where they conect to the sprag, I have seen this a few times It will not affect upshifts but will cause no engine braking in any position.

Thanks For The Reply!!! I Am Shocked That Tci Didnt Have Answer For Me. I Thought That It Would Be The Over Run Clutch But I Did Not Want To Accept It. I Was Hoping That It Would Be Electrical So I Wouldnt Have To TearTHE Trans Down. Do You Have Any Idea What Can Lead To Failures Like That The Trans Is Only 2 Years Old.HOW HARD IS THIS TO REPLACE AND WILL THIS LEAD TO OTHER COMPONENT FAILURES? I SEEMS THE 4L60E
IS EASY TO REBUILD COMPARED TO THE 7 SPEED AUTOMATIC MERCEDES TRANSMISSIONS I TEAR DOWN. I AM GLAD THAT ITS NOT A BENZ TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THE VALVE BODY AND TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT ARE
ARE PUT TOGETHER AS 1 COMPONENT INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION.

Not anything in particular and overun clutch failure could happen if there was a crossleak allowing them to become applied during 4TH gear cruising that would burn them up. The tabs could have broken off the sprag assembly this can happen with a high speed deceleration shift to low gears. But You will have to look to really know. Keep me posted on what you see in there.

Do You Sell These Parts And How Much Would It Cost? If You Do Can You Sell Me Everything I Need? Can I Still Drive My Car This Way And For How Long?
