Default First ride after stall

I just put a tourquer V2 cam and the yank ss3600 in my camaro. I took it for a ride and it did'nt want to lock up, I was just easing around in it. It was slipping in all 4 gears. Is this norm or will a tune fix this? If so what will it be like after the tune?

It wont lock up until you hit 38 mph or so which is the stock tune. If you didn't go faster than this then it wouldn't have locked up. I just put in a SS3600 stall and it is pretty evident when its locking up. The rpm's fall off pretty hard when it locks. Mine is the stock tune and its right around 38 mph like I said.

Was your car throwing a misfire code?

well I got up to about 50 and it still felt like it was'nt locking up. I had the car tuned after I put headers on and it was just a little street tune. The guy that tuned it said he increased my shift pressure a lil bit. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.

The converter's not locking due to the new cam.

If the misfire condition from the cam isn't tuned out, the converter will not lock PROPERLY, if at all.

The pcm can still be sensing misfire and not throw a code. I had this happen on my car and lockup would not work properly. Once misfire code was basically turned off via HPtuners, lockup functions as it should.

Get the car tuned for the cam, and you'll be good to go.

well I have'nt went and got it tuned yet and my car won't idle. I have to keep giving it gas so I can put it in gear. I belive it is misfiring because it feels like it misses and my car shakes pretty bad if I let it get low into the RPMs (500-1000). Just not sure what to think. I put it in 1st and got it up to about 3500 rpm bout30 mph and stomped it and it felt like it was locked then but just crusin it wont lock up.

You're answering your own question.

Get it tuned, and you'll be fine.

Any decent tuner will know what to do to get it idling and running right, and they'll know what to do to enable lockup like a stocker...I wouldn't keep driving it un-tuned since along with the converter not locking, you've also made the car's performance needs a good bit different than a stocker with headers.

This guy speaks the truth......mine before the tune would randomly unlock on the highway.....cam sends misfires and disables lock up.

how do you tune out the misfire code? i was told to not delete it totally but make it 2 to 3 times less sensitive at low rpms. my tuner took mine out 20% (which i realize isn't 2-3 times) and i still get the code with my small tr224 112 cam.

No idea what your car is tuned with, but I have HPtuners and parameters for detecting misfire are just set artificially high in the lower rpm cells (3000 and under). A lot of people just turn off that (P0300) code altogether.

i guess i am not sure what you are saying when they are set artifically high in the lower rpms. my car was tuned with hp tuners as well. he told me he took it 20% out. maybe he meant the whole service engine light in general? i was told to not take that all the way out but to just make it less sensitive....
