Default HELP, my tranny or my Vigi3200 may be fried

Well, just over 4k miles & either my tranny or the Vigi 3200 let go on me.

Mods: Long tubes, ORY, B1 cam, Vigi 3200, B&M 19k gvw cooler, Lid, tuning, stock 2.73's.

Here's what happened last Friday (before LS1 edit tuning), I was out playing arround & making some runs on the street, beating on my car a bit. After making a few runs close together, the transmission started giving me trouble. It would rev up real high leaving from a stop & wasnt' shifting much at all. Once I got going it didn't seem like it was slipping so I got on the beltway & drove it home. Once I got off the freeway, it was stil reving up pretty high from low speeds & wasn't downshifting all the way to first. The next day, I got in to see if it was going to replicate the problem & it drove fine, all night long and for the rest of the week (although I don't drive it daily).

Tonight, a week later, I went to HRP to see how she was running with the new mods & tuning & was fairly pleased with my 12.5's with my crummy 2.73's. On the way home, there were about 4 F-bodies rolling back to the SE side to have some late dinner at Dixie's Diner & we were playing along the way. I was beating on my baby pretty hard & ran it several times on and off. When we were almost there, right after I got on it, slowed down & tried to take off, it started doing the same thing. It's slipping even worse now though. When I take off, it goes up to around 5k rpms......I'm sure the tranny fluid was really hot.....but does this sound like the tranny or the converter? Anyone had a past experience similar to this one? What ended up being the problem. Remember the car only has about 4200 miles on it. The fluid level looked fine the last time I checked it, it was on the dipstick this time I checked it but I couldn't get a good reading or it was high (i'm assuming maybe the fluid foams up?) Anyhow, I'm just wondering if it might be the tranny cooler doing this? I never had problems with it before doing this when I drove it hard. The problem was after my big mod fest when I put on headers, ORY, B1 cam & the tranny cooler.....any insight to what my problem could be would be welcomed. Thanks

Pull the dip stick and smell your fluid. If it smells burn't, put the car on jack stands and pull the little access cover off the bottom of the bell housing. Shine a flash light in there and look at your converter. Does it look like it did when you bought it? If yes then the converter more than likely is ok. If not, it may be fried. Never beat on the car for an extensive period of time with letting the converter lock up. When it locks up, it doesn't make as much heat and allows the fluid to cool down. I hope everything is ok. I would get the tranny flushed at the least.

Marc is it hitting the limiter? Does it shift fine under normal driving? If so this is what mine is doing and it started after the mods and LS1edit. I am thinking it is an electrical problem. I am still <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> trying to figure it out.

No, it doesn't drive normal at all, I was just limping it & it was revving up pretty high. I stabbed it one time to see how high & it hit the rev limiter. I'm going to go drive it now & see if it repeatst the symptoms. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Hey Marc. This is Joe with the black formula.I met you last Friday at Pinemont.

The paint they put on the vigi's changes colors when it overheats. They do this for their warranties. Check to see if it's discolored. If it is it overheated.

I could atap it for you if you wanna drive across town. you'd definately be throwing a code if it was something electrical or pcm related.

It sounds like it's the tranny to me though. I had the same problem in a stock v6 camaro one time.

Sounds like a fried clutch band, but could be a bad pump, or even electrical stuff as suggested by others. Does it only do this at low speeds? If so, you can rule out the converter as the problem.

The 4l60E is not the world's greatest tranny, unfortunately.

The car is almost undrivable so I'd love to get it autotapped, but I can't drive it there. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> I got two cars down at my house being worked on right now & neither of them are mine.....I gotta get these other cars out of my way so i can start diagnosing mine. On the up side, my friend knows a GM Mastertech that will do a bench job on my tranny for a good price, I just have to get all the parts I want & bring him the tranny & he will do it on the side.......not sure if this will be the fix I need but it might last until I can afford a Stage 2 FLP or whatever the good built tranny is.

Pulled it out of the driveway & it's still fucked up. I wonder if the wiring harness could be unclipped or something. Would that cause the tranny to act like ****?

No SES light at all, if it's throwing any codes, it's not tripping the light. I doubt it's just a code that needs to be deleted that would cause it to run this poorly. I fear for the worst. One car is finally done, the other one isn't even half way done so I can't get into my garage. It was supposed to be done yesterday, but oh well....
