Default Big Problems with Vigilante 3600

Ok guys, here goes:

Monday I had a Vigilante 3600 Torque Converter installed. It was new and pink.

After a week of not beating on the car and locking up the TC, the converter and everything was just fine. I did floor it while doing 70 and the 2-3 shift was perfect. No rev-limiter crap no BS. Never tried the 1-2 shift because I can't do it on city streets.

Sunday, today, I took the car to the race tracks. Race starts and the car hits the rev-limiter twice and shifts. I feel it slipping a little and at 5500 RPM the guage shows 5500 RPM and then suddenly goes to 6000 and then bangs the rev-limiter 10 times or so. I let off the gas, and it shifts and i floor it the rest of the way.

Second time up, same thing.

On the way home, i was feeling down about my 13.9 @ 99 when prior to the TC i had a 13.15 @ 106. So I decide to punch it and see if it is the same crap. And it was. Bangs teh hell out of the rev limiter and is slipping horribly at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.

I got home hooked up AutoTap and went for a drvei. Transmission temperature was 215* during freeway crusing. I have the cooler mounted on the backside of the front fasciua facing the radiator in front of the black airdam underneath the car. The lines are routed properly.

So we take a ride my friend and I, and i hammer it from a 5 mph roll. Spins naturally and the 1-2 shift hits the rev-limiter once and shifts to 2nd just fine. 2-3 shift does the same crap it was doing all day long. After a few runs like that, here is my hypothesis: In 2nd gear at 5500 RPM at full throttle, the converter or transmission slips and the engine speed jumps to 6000+ RPM and causes the rev-limiter to come on. We monitored LTerms B1 and B2 and they never went past +/- 15%. We also monitored the TCC Speed or whatever it is and at 5500 RPM at full throttle in 2nd, it was around 900 RPMs.

The car has not had tuning done by LS1Edit. My hopes are that it is just shift points and torque management.

When getting LS1Edit tuning, what things should be changed in the PCM?

Sorry for the long post I just need help very badly.

Do you have a friend you could borrow HPP3 from for a few days? You could try adjusting rev limiter/shift points and see what happens.
Sometimes these trannies do some weird stuff with a higher stall TC.
I was banging the 1-2 limiter bad. Lowering the shift points didn't work; it would shift to 2, shift back to 1, then quickly shift back to 2. Took a lot of runs w/Autotap to verify this. I finally had to go +3 mph on the 1-2 shift and raise the limiter to 6300 rpms. Raising the limiter also stopped the problems on the 2-3 shift. Another thing that helps the 1-2 shift is better traction. If you're getting a bunch of wheelspin the rpms will spool up quickly and hit the limiter. Running 245/50 16 street radials I can't go quite WOT on takeoff, the TC just hits too hard for the tires I have.

I'm sure you have heard this before but also keep an eye on your fluid level. I ended up bringing extra fluid to the track with me and kept it in the car for a while after the install.

I've gotta Vig 3600 but it doesn't hit the limiter. As stated, check the tranny fluid, if it's low it wont be able to hold the TC or shift correctly.

Also may want to consider the 28,000 GVW cooler... I had the 19,000 but noticed that normal driving in the summer trans would get around 210 degrees, put the big ole 28,000 in it and highest is usually around 180, temp like we have not (sub 0) it barely gets warm enough to register above 100.

You have a cam? if so there are some settings you need to work on, my Vig would unlock like that a lot till I disabled misfires and now it works flawless.
