i just called a local trans shop about doing my converter/cooler/shiftkit install and i asked for a recommendation for a shiftkit and they told me i needed a hypertech programmer first because the shiftkit wouldnt do much because the computer would interfere. has ANYONE heard this before? a friend of mine went there for his first converter and shiftkit install (4l60e) and he recommended them. im not much of a mechanic but i know that there are tons of guys on this board with no hpp3 with converters and shift kits and stuff.
hahaha well dont listen to this "mechanic" just tell him to install the stuff that you need installed and you will figure out the rest. HPP3 can increase the shift firmness for you. however thats what a shift kit does for you also. HPP3 does it electronically and the shift kit does it mechanically. shift kit is much better for trans. you mechanic may be talking about the BS torque management system. and yeah that will interfere with the converter and the computer but it wont hurt anything.
hondakiller: I suggest a different shop..... WJ.
you're in wilmington DE. Within 2 hours you can be at Rapidmotorsports in PA or at Fbody Central in Baltimore and have the work done by someone with a clue.

i talked to a couple friends of mine and they explained it a bit better. they said the shift kit would allow for more line pressure and flow but the pcm still controls the solenoids so it would interfere still. a 2 hour drive isnt really an option though. they do decent work, my friends tranny lasted into the low 11's in an lt1 t/a launching on a 150 shot so they cant be too bad.
I personally would go with a shop that has a solid reputation especially when it comes to something of this nature. When you think about whats at stake a 2 hour drive is nothing. Just as a not. You can't use the shift firmness on a hypertech with a shift kit installed. The programmer will ask you if you already have a shift kit installed. After you answer "yes" then the programmer leaves the firmness alone and goes to the next option. You could up the firmness with the hypertech after installing a shift kit but you're asking for major trouble.
