To properly size you a converter, we need to know very thing.
1) ci, hp/tq
2) gears
3) tire size
4) cam
5) weight
6) stree/strip or strip only
7) 1/4 or 1/8 mile car

Here is the problem im having i hope you can help me.
I was given a TCI 8" converter from my father in law that was tore up on the inside, i found a local converter shop here in Dallas Tx and they replaced every thing on the inside and i told them i wanted a 4000 to 4500 stall, they told me no problem it only cost me 350$ to have it completely rebuilt. Well i made it to the track past sunday and it seem real loose but i went ahead and made a pass. On the line it would foot brake 4500 to 4800 and flash to 5200 or 5300 and i was shifting at 6900 needless to say the converter would never lock or couple up, it would slip all the way down the track, The previous converter was a JW 10" and it would only foot brake to 2400 and it ran a 7.80 at 90mph w/ a 1.74 60ft and i thought i needed a little looser converte so it would hit the tires harder and with the 8" it ran a 8.01 and a 8.06 at 82mph w/ a 1.85 60ft it lost 8mph and i did not change any thing but the converter, and i only made those two passes. So i pulled the converter out and i taken it back to them today (tuesday) so they can make it lock up or change the stall. They told me they might have to change the stator or adjust the fins. I dont mind it stalling to 4500 as long it couples or locks up, is there any thing i can tell them to help me out? they offer one free stall change after they rebuild one so its not going to cost me any thing except a little work to have it changed.
Thanks for any advice or info i can tell them.

Default I have a TH-350 converter question

I currently have a 8" TCI converter in my TH-350 but its way to loose, Sunday was the first day to take it to the track it would footbrake to 4500 to 4800 on the line but it never would lock up going down the track. I lost 8mph .3 in E.T and .2 in 60ft all in 1/8 mile, i did not change any thing else but the converter. I just finished taking the converter out and i am sending it back to them so they can change it.

But here is my confusion do i need to tell them to tightend up the converter because its to loose or tell them it need to lock up faster. I dont know the STR ratio of the converter and i dont know what it needs to be 2.0,3.0 etc...
I really need some help
Thanks
Lance

Hi Lance,
You can tell them to install one of our CCX stators and 150 + impellor blade angle. That should work good with your shiftpoints. It'll have nearly 2.5 STR and 95+% efficiency. It will flash stall around 5200-5300.
