ST3500 Questions
I have the opportunity to pick up a Yank ST3500 locally at a decent price. I've heard many good and bad things about this converter. The owner claims to have never experienced "chatter", or any other problems. If I purchase it, I plan to send it back to Yank for inspection prior to installation. Is this converter a good choice? Are there upgrades available to resolve the problems that some people have experienced? What is the cost of inspection and/or upgrades (I can't seem to get a response from Yank)? I have a 2002 SS with a lid and a catback (I'm installing LT's and ORP soon). I drive 95% street, and occassionally at the track. How well is this converter suited to my application?

well it sounds like youre going to have an identical setup to mine. ive had mine for about 10 months or so and have no experienced any chatter...thankfully. i too drive on the street most of the time and like the loose feel. i have had no problems with it locking up or otherwise. as far as upgrades available, im not too sure, your best bet will be to call yank and see what they say.
I have had mine for well over a year now and its awesome. The hit off idle is awesome and i have absolutely no complaints. I had a vig 2800 and it sucked. I would launch and then it would just fall on its face. Thas what i get for taking the advice of a local trans shop. I'd buy another one in a second....maybe even bigger. With the 3:73's it really doesn't feel like there is a stall at all.
i love my st-4000, just the big brother version. i have had ZERO chatter problems or any lockup problems. smooth, HARD hitting, and great from a roll. it has a lot to do with the materials in teh clutches and when the convertor was built. mine was made in feb of 2002.
I have had my ST3500 for over a year in my car and i love it. I have had the typical pcm issues that the 01's and 2's get. Mainly the PO757 code, get that deleted and all is good. My best 60' with 3.73's, with this verter is a 1.58.
