Need advice/opinions My transmission is shot to hell..so i've been calling up places around town.
Cheapest i've heard for a rebuild is $250 labor, $160 parts, but that's just a blind estimate...still i believe only a basic overhaul is needed. This is for a benchjob.
Another place was very friendly..gave a free electronic diagnosis..and claimed that i would only need to replace whatever they found was damaged, unlike other shops that replace un-needed parts.
But they gave me the price of $250 to remove it from the car, open it up, and clean everything. Then they'd decide the price. I asked the guy about a cost of a rebuild...he said, "For a 4l60e...it'd be about $1600"
And then i called a parts/junkyard type business, and they found a 4l60e out of state which i could get for $900 shipped.
i have no real problems with removing the transmission myself...can't really afford to take time off from work...and don't have much money.
Soo....opinions are appreciated on which way i should go with this.
(and no this isn't tech for the A/T forum)

Uhh, I'll be the judge of that and yes it is.
BTW, $1600 for a rebuild is a joke. Go elsewhere. It's just a simple rebuild kit, some fluid, a band, and some clutches.

i don't need any technical information about the transmission. It's a lounge question on how i should go about spending money.
would get more replies in the racer's lounge.

Re: Need advice/opinions i picked up a used one out of a totalled SS with 10K miles on it. i have put about 6K miles on it, with the power i am making now...and its still good. imo, a stock one is the best tranny around. picked mine up for 300 bucks local.
