4l60e shifter linkage ball socket problem

4l60e shifter linkage ball socket problem ok on my 4l60e i am having a problem with the end of the shifter cable staying on the stud that comes off of the arm bolted to the side of the trans. dont know if its worn out or what but doesnt stay on.any fixes for this besides replacing the whole cable? fyi its the plastic eyelet that usually snaps around the shifter arm on side of tranny
