I got a TH400, vigillante stall, tci flexplate and some other stuff from speed inc just recently. I'm in the process of installing the trans, but the tci flexplate it came with a spacer. The instructions from tci say " use it when you are using any tranny other than a 4l60e " .... the sales guy from speed inc on the other hand told me that I don't need to use it because the converter I got is specifically designed for the swap and elimates the need to use it and that would only be needed with a standard th400 converter. What exactly is the point of these spacers, and how do I know for sure if I need to put it in or not? The tranny is bolted up right now and the converter and flexplate line up perfectly as far as the 3 bolts go, but I'm not sure what I should expect to see in the center.

 

The person you spoke to @ Speed Inc. is correct. The hub spacer is to be used if the converter was not built LSx specific.

He is correct.
You usually only use those adapters if the converter does not have the longer(lsx) snout.
