97 model year 4l60e transam,trans wont shift into second,or into overdrive..

the fluids clean,isnt burnt,and doesnt smell.

if you accelerate from a stoplight,first pulls hard,with out any slippage,but it wont shift into second,if you ease off the gas,it shifts directly into third,again,without any slippage.

same thing under normal driving,ease on the gas from a stop,and it will click into 3rd gear,if you romp on it and your doing right at,or a tad under 40 mph,it will downshift into first.

any chance this could be something electrical?

 

Shift solenoid is my guess. The cheapest easiest fixed prob on a 4L60E

 

this is common?

 

On my car it is. I got sick of it all and just had a worked unit fitted. My clutches were fukola, 2nd apply band was glazed as well as the drum being worn from the band dragging. B4 that I changed solenoids to fix some voltage spike issues I had. They are sensitive but luckily the outmost feature of the trans

 

Sounds like the 2-4 band is damaged or badly burned

 

im just gonna convert this turd to a t56..

 

just build the 4l60e with good parts and a tranny cooler and stall, it will last and be faster then a t56

 

it finally died last night,lost all forward gears,only has reverse now.

going to call frank tomorrow and get some options,otherwise im going t56.
