Default Q About Stall Converters

I'm trying to figure out as much as I can about LS1s and the 4L60E (I don't have one yet, but I will soon). I was wondering about the non-performance effects of using one. Does it just let the car stand at a higher RPM, or does it change the car's idle RPM as well?

I dont think mine ever changed the idle. I have a Vigilante 3600 9.5 inch single disc lock-up

You have to give it a little more gas from a dead stop to make it move, and when you are first getting used to it, it kinda makes the car have a heavy feel. But when you step on it, it MOVES. And when the tranny shifts, the RPMs stay high. Keep in mind though, I also have a TransGO shift kit that I installed to "full race" and if you get a converter, it's also a good idea to get a tranny cooler as well. I got a B&M 11x6.5 cooler.

Easily one of my favorite mods, and performance wise, THE best mod Ive done.

The one thing that took me by surprise is the lock up. It will be much more noticable. Its like an on and off switch, there is that big of a difference. Also your gas mileage will drop 1-3 mpg depending on your driving habits.

The performance from it is excellent though. It will definitely throw you in your seat!

Okay, I don't mind losing one or two MPG. I usually drive pretty conservatively anyway, so I think I'll be okay.

For a stock LS1 car, or mild bolt ons, I wouldnt think twice about a Yank SS3600, or a Vig3600 converter. The main thing you want to do is think about your goals with the car, and future mods. A torque converter is one of those things you want to do right the first time, and not have to do again. For a stock, or bolt on car, the ones I listed above would be great, even with a small cam in the 220 ranges.

Not really ...I mean I did punch it every now and then but for some reason it never ran right after the stall. I think I got a broken one lol

Would a 3800 stall converter be wise to put on a near-stock ws6? Friend sold me his for $200 but I don't really want to lose driveability since I cruise around town a lot. It will eventually be a built car, but for now?

These guys seem to have excellent feedback as of late absolutely worth a look at.

i started with a 3400 stall fuddle on a near stock car. Now i have a 4000 stall vig (read 4400) on a near stock car. Driveability wasnt much different between the two. But definitely different from stock. Nothing that you wouldnt be able to deal with though, i would think.

Sorry just got back to this thread, but is 200 expensive or something? I know you're on CR from your sig, I bought it off Anthony (darkformula). I don't know what kind it is.

I agree..the SS3600 in my car barely feels any different than stock.
