Transmission Fluid Question
Transmission Fluid Question i have 2000 a4 z28 with a little over 100,000miles, and i was curious if it hurt anything changing over to royal purple transmission fluid or should i just stick with what gm recommends, and how many quarts will i need to just drain the pan and change the filter?

i worked on some trannys in my time and ive never had a problem w/ 1 tranny that was properly cooled, some swear by royal purple though.
for me , a tranny with that many miles all id do is change the filter and refill it, if you dont have a tranny cooler get one!
a gallon or a lil more on a pan drop if you ditch all the fluid in the pan

I would stay with the oem stuff particularly on a high mileage trans, dont fix it if its not broke lol

Ya when I changed over to the new part synth DEX stuff at 49K my shifts immediately got less crisp. I think the new stuff was more slippery. Now at 75K I have slipping 2-3 shifts and wonder if it somehow contributed to my 2-3 clutches early demise?? Stick with DEX III fo sho!
