Default 4L60e and 4L65e

I searched and came up with only one relative thread.

I have an 05 GTO with a 4l65e in it. I want to build a tranny to support my next engine and have been looking for a 4l65e core that is somewhat "broke" and suitable for rebuilding. All I have found is "good" 4l65s but there are a slew of damaged 4l60's out there.

Question is can I buy one of these 4l60's and build it and it work in my car?

Million dollar question is....

Would it be worth it from a cost standpoint to convert a 60 to a 65.

Whole story is a friend of mine can build it (and has built several 4l65e's in the past) and I have looking for a "core" for months. He is a friend so there is no charge other than parts-which is about $1300.00.

I personally would build the unit that is currently in your vehicle which is a 65 to begin with. This way you have a known good piece to start with.

I hear you-problem is my builder is in Wyoming and I am in GA. Just can't be without the car since it's my dd. That is why I am looking to get one built, shipped, the just a day to put it in.

That is unless you want to sell me one of your FLT Level 5's for let's say $1500 plus core LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it might be better to try and bargain on a 65, as opposed to the cost of an upgrade on a 60-i have bought stuff by saying i will buy w/o a warrenty, that way they know its a one way sell

You might want to check with the salvage yards that require cores. Around here in Michigan, they are getting 75.00-100.00 for a Denali or Escalade core. You'll need to change the output shaft and tailhousing to GTO. Just a thought.
