Default is the yank ss3800 right for me?

well i finally decided to get a converter soon. i was just wondering if it will be right for me with: 2002 z28 a4,magnaflow catback, 273's, lid/filter, future super charging, future suspension upgrades, no n20. this is a daily driver which will be seeing the track about 1-2 days a month once i'm off of worker's comp. before anyone gets mad, i did a search and i'm just asking to be sure i don't waste money. thanks in advance -eric

Sounds like a pretty good choice.
I also have a Z28 with A4 & 2.73s and I was originally going to get a Vig3200 converter. But after hearing the stories of how great the street manners are of the Yank SS converters, I'm probably gonna go with a SS3600 or SS3800.

I am also thinking of this converter.... well I have plans on buying one used in about 2 weeks or as soon as funds allow.

I am really not sure how well the converter would work with my set up but I have talked with a few people and I plan on giving Yank a call as SOON as I get an evening off so that I can call during hours.

I have a Yank SS3800 on my 2002 SS. I have over 4,000 miles on it, with zero complaints. My car is a daliy driver with a Washington DC commute of 40 minutes around the famous beltway. I think this is an excellent converter for a daily driver.

The only drawback is that it is impossible to get traction on street tires. Even from a 20-25mph roll, the tires will spin. Maybe drag radials would help. For the track, I bought a set of ET Streets.

The only other big mod I have is headers, and I do have a 3.23 gear, but even with 2.73's I think this conveter would be great. There also is the SS3600 which has a lower STR, which may help traction a little.

Call Precision Industries tech line and see what they would recommend to you. I called them and they recommended a 3200 for me based on my mods. Unfortunately I haven't put the converter in the car yet. The weather here is a mess. At this rate, I might be able to bring the car out sometime in September. This ice and snow crap better end soon - I'me getting impatient. I've got some rubber I want to burn!

The 3800 will really wake the car up. Since you hit the track regularly, the 3800 will be a good choice. You'll need nittos to hook it up with your 2.73s.

The 3600 will be a little tighter and still perform well. It will be slightly better from the drivability standpoint.

I just got off the phone with Mike @ Yank and I am convinced that the SS3800 is the converter for me. I was glad to speak with him and get an idea of what I would be looking at with other converters. We spoke and he claims that they have seen improvements of 6-8 tenths dropped with these converters(with good traction) and that is AMAZING!

6-8 tenths...dayam. i hope the converter backs up his words. i'm still confused on getting either the 36 or 3800 for a daily driver.

I went with a SS3600. I am running the stock 3.24 ratio. Car is still in conversion process so I can not report on drivability. From my research I thought it was the best compromise for a daily driver

You put the 3800 and drag radials on your 2.73 gear car and .6 will be easy to get and .8 is well with range. I've seen several people drop .7 - .9 on 2.73 gear cars by adding 3500+ stall (e.g. ST 3500) and drag radials.

My guess is that the SS360 + drag radials will get .6; maybe .7 and the 3800 should be good for another .1 or so.

I just ordered the Yank SS3600. I have a 2001 Corvette Coupe. The Corvette is pretty light, so hooking up will be an issue for me. I am not a huge drag racer, but will go ocassionally, probably more when I add my 3.42 gears and the SS3600

I am plannign on running the 18" Nittos or BFG Drag Radials that are soon to be out on the Rear at All Times! Hopefully this will allow me to have fun on the street as well. I know a lot of my F-Body buddies run DR's on the backs of cars all the time (17" Nittos specifically)and say it handles great.

I hope I didn't go over board ? We will soon see. BTW, I have 3.15's now and am installing 3.42's. I hope I can have fun on the stret with this TC (where i will mainly be), my safe choice was a SuperYank3500, but as we all know, we always want more, so I went with too much to start off with.

Too much is Better than Not Enough!!!That is what "she" says.

Just my 2cents I put a tci street fight in my last car with 273s Its just 3000 stall and it dropped 5 tenths at track and I think it has a 2.1 stater in it doesnt hit the tires to hard but hard enough awesome on street with nittos and is very eff on top. Sold that car got a 1999 now that converter is in this car would have like to have seen what a bigger converter could do but this thing is great all around ill bet that super street fighter 3500 , or 3800 ragtop is talking about rocks bigtime. Ps my car on the spry was silly on a 125 shot gained 13mph hitting it halfway threw first.dam traction problems. lol

Why don't you save a bunch of money and go with a Midwest Convertor from HPA. There are many many satisfied customers who went that route. John at HPA has been building convertors for many years for all kinds of race cars and have finally made them available to us. I have a 3200 stall and let me tell you, with 3.23's I gained at least 5-7 tenths.

I have a Yank SS-3800, have not had a single problem with it!! AWESOME convertor!!! It has the street manners of a 2800 stall......even with my 2.73 rearend.. My heads/cam car with 315 nittos, kills the tires with this convertor!!! Definitely a must buy for the quality alone!!! I would suggest it to anyone, even if you do a lot of daily driving!!!

i am also considering the Yank SS 3800. i currently have the all-too-mild Yank Stealth 2600. will i at least be able to drop 5 tenths going from the stealth to the SS 3800?

Another satisfied SS3600 owner. Went from a Super Thruster 3000 and can't tell the difference until I floor it. Simply GREAT street manners.
WOW!

SS3600 improvement over stock converter. 12.59 to 12.03. Mph from 112 up to 113 with converter. 60' stock 2.06 with converter 1.76 with Nitto's. I am sure I can get the 60' down some, I only got 3 runs in.
T1 cam, FLP headers thru the cats with cutout open. U/D pulley, lid, LS1Edit tuning, Bauer ported throttle body. 3626#'s

I talked to Yank also. I told them I didn't want to do any reprogramming. They told me NOT to get the SS3600 because I would have problems, like torque management. Said SS3400 might work. SS3800 no way!
