Just finished install of TCI 3500 stall converter, Comp 224/224 .581", 112LSA cam, and headers on my '99 cutomatic Z28. The car has 34,000 miles on it. The car runs and drives ok, but if I give it anything over 1/2 throttle it just revs to the limiter without shifting (will shift after 1-2 seconds on limiter). Is my trans screwed or what? Is this something that can be fixed by computer tuning? How can I test the trans to see if it's a trans problem (I dont just want to shell out $1600 for a new unit without being shure)?
If you did not have it tuned you may have an issue. First off get EFIlive or atap and see if its throwing codes, also see if it is showing misfires, and very important is the Trans temp. I had issues with mine till I programed out the misfires it was unloacking the converter sand felt like bad slip.

I did not have the car tuned yet, but this was happening even before my SES light came on (from the cam install I assume). I have an email in with Speed Inc (they have me scheduled to get the car tuned) to see what they think. Trans temp should be good as I intstalled the largest B&M trans cooler along with the converter. We'll have to see what they say. Thanks for the suggestion, and any other ideas are apprecieated in the meantime.
When I first put my stall in it did the same thing.. It would hit the limiter a few times then shift.. I just upped my rev limiter and it fixed it all..
you can lower your shift points also.. You will need ls1edit or hypertech or something similar to do this..

Phew! I was thinking that upping the limiter & reducing shift RPM may help- I was hoping that someone would confirm my suspicion. The only lousy thing is that I just sold my HPP3 'cause I'm gonna get the car dyno tuned- I guess I'll have to live with it until the tune.

Let us know how you make out.. I bought ls1 edit.. I did the math and it was gonna be cheaper to get it to start out with.. Then when I changed to an A4 it more than made itself worth it...

Just got an email from Speed Inc. (they have me scheduled for the dyno tune). They said that a new cam & aggressive converter will change the shift points drastically, and that the tuning should solve the problem!
