Another M6 to 4L80 Swap In the Works
I fired mine up Sunday. Wow, this thing holds a lot of fluid. I've lost track of how much is in there due to spillage but, I must have around 10 quarts in there.
Compushift: I think I programmed something wrong and/or wired something wrong. No speedo reading and the tach on the compushift is reading half of what the car is actually revving at. It is set to 2 pules per rev. Is this thing 2 pulses per revolution or 4?
Next weekend I'll top it off, figure out the tach and speedo problems, throw the exhaust on (sounds nice without a muffler lol), and go for a test ride.

I fixed the tach problem. All I did was tell the controller I had a 4 cylinder.
The speedo is another story. It still does not work. There is no signal reaching the controller and I am afraid there may be something missing inside the trani, namely the reluctor.
I'll have to remove the trani or lower it enough to remove the VSS sensor. I will then look inside through the hole and see if the reluctor is in there. It will absolutely suck if it isn't, because it is way the hell inside on the 4L80. This blows!

There are 2 VSS's on a 4L80E, and you have to get a Signal Buffer Box to get the correct signal to the Speedo..
A friend of mine just installed a LQ4/4L80E into a '85 S-10 Blazer, and he just went through that little ordeal with that..

No kidding, wow. I've never heard of this. What is he controlling it with? A stock PCM?
A signal buffer box; I hope that's all I need to do but I've been on the phone with Mike Hoy, the guy that makes Compushift. He really seems to know his stuff and has been very helpful. As he explained it, all I needed to do was connect the transmission output speed sensor (rear=TOSS) to the Compushift harness, and then connect the "reproduced-TOSS" wire coming from the Compushift, to the PCM's PPL/WHT wire.
Mike explained that Compushift does not need to know the transmission input speed sensor(front=TISS) in order to generate proper output to the speedo.
As I understand it, the TISS info is only necessary to modulate TCC application. I am not going to modulate TCC. (Compushift commands TCC to lock or unlock, but not gradually.)
I have a bad feeling the guy that built my trani forgot to put the reluctor in.

Oh man! I think I'm screwed. I removed the TOSS sensor and spun the trani while looking inside -- there's nothing but shiny metal in there.
I'll call the trani builder tomorrow, but I am not optimistic. I think he used a 4WD output shaft.

OK! The speedo WORKS!
All that's left is to top it off with ATF, set the pinion angle, and tweak the exhaust a bit. (It's a little tight on the crossmember clearance.)
150 mile break-in for the 'verter and we'll see what it can do!!!
