Vibration in D with new 4400 converter??
I`m getting a pronounced vibration when leaving the trans in Drive/3rd around town. Does not seem to be present in any other gear including OD. This is only the 2nd or 3rd time out with the new TCI 4400 and TCI shift kit and I have not been above 3/4 throttle yet. Fluid level looks good. I don`t have any tuning either. What do you guys think? Thanks for any help.

Re: Vibration in D with new 4400 converter??
It seems to be occuring when the converter is locked. To be honest , the trans is jumping all over the place. In and out of lock, not wanting to down shift while in Drive. I`m sure it will take some getting use to with a converter this loose. There was also a discrepency with the instruction for thr shift kit so I hope I got it right. I don`t expect it to drive like stock, I`m just being extra careful! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> As far as other mods, I only have the converter, shift kit, Hooker LT`s & ORY & TR55`s. The car has about 1,300 miles total and about 75 of the with the above mentioned mods. I have the first car club event of the year comming up Sat. and it is quite a hike out to it. I`m trying to get most of the bugs (more mental than anything) worked out before the drive.

02 Silver Z,
What type of discrepancy did the instructions have? If converter clutch were slipping then it would slip in OD too. What types of throttle conditions does this happen?

Re: Vibration in D with new 4400 converter??
Hi Kevin, thanks for the reply. The discrepancy I`m speaking of was in 376001 instructions step #9. It says to remove the 3-4 accum. spring in the case and to NOT reuse it. My trans did not have the spring in the case but instead had two springs (one large and one small that fit inside the larger)in the 1-2 accum. So I just installed the shorter yellow spring in the 1-2 accum. that was supplied with the kit, since I had no 3-4 spring to remove. (Does that make sense??) Because the car is kind of "jerky" in OD (in and out of lock at part throttle at speeds around 35-45) it`s hard for me to tell what`s going with the RPM`s relativly low. I did notice once while the car was going through a normal shift pattern that when it hit 3rd, the vibration appeared briefly until it shifted into 4th. It also does not want to down shift to 2nd on 3/4 + throttle pulls from like a 40 MPH roll while in 3rd/D. Other than that the thing pulls like a BEAST from a roll or dead stop. And I havn`t even done any full throttle pulls yet! Anyway, I`m hoping the problem is just me not being use to this converter yet and all that`s needed is a little tuning.

Mine started to vibrate in drive after I replaced the stock tranny mount with an Energy Suspension. Two different converters and it does the same thing. My TCI 4400 locks and unlocks perfectly... Is you vibration at a certain rpm range?

Re: Vibration in D with new 4400 converter??
Sorry for the delay in my response. I have been busy, lately. I have a test for you to try. If the converter is causing a "jerky" feel in 3rd, try to apply the brake paddle to turn on the brake lights but not apply the brakes!! Then try to drive the car like when you get the "jerky" feel. The system should not allow the converter clutch to lock in 3rd or 4th. If the "jerky" feeling does not happen then it is the converter. The 3-4 acc. spring did not come in some models so you are safe. How many miles are on your car? What year is your car?

Re: Vibration in D with new 4400 converter??
Thanks for the replys fellas. I in fact do have a ES trans mount and t/a mount. Could be very possible that those are transfering the vibration through the steering wheel. Just for the record it`s a 2002 with 1,400 miles and about 100 of which are on the converter. I`m also noticing on the 1-2 shift a jump/surge/spike in rpm before the car shifts into 2nd.
