Need help with convertor.
Hey guys!
I have a 00 z28 A4 which only has wisper lid right now. I plan on getting a LM by hte end of the month and am researching torque convertors. I dont plan on any heavy modding for my car but want to have a decent racer to keep ricers away. which would be a good choice? Please keep in mind that i am a part time working teenager with very little to spend. Any input will GREATLY appreciated.
P.S - I know this question has probably been asked before but i just needed some fresh thoughts.

I really like my 3200 vig great road manners and a monster at the track. I have heard good things about tcs, midwest and tci all good converters just shop around. The best mod for a ls1 a4 car hands down a stall converter. Well n2o's good to but that stuff is highly addictive.
The cheapest , TCI, and Midwest, will push 5 bills + install.
A TCS, P.I.,or Yank will run 2-4 hundred more.
Assuming $250-300 for the install, the bill will hit $750 to $1200.
Shave a c-note off a Yank or P.I. with a g.p. and the top end drops to $1100.
So, if money is tight, TCI and Midwest would be your best bets.
Don't get anything under 3200 stall;you'll regret it. I just went from a 3000
to a 3600. $1100 down the crapper.

I just installed a 3500 stall TCI along with a cam. I am having a problem with the car bouncing off the rev limiter a couple of times before shifting (this happens at anything above 1/2 throttle). I guess this is fairly normal for a 3500+ stall converter, and it's supposed to be able to be corrected by tuning, but it's something to consider before your purchase- you MIGHT need to have the computer adjusted to have the car shift properly. Then again- if you are going to have it installed, the shop should take care of this for you.
A lot of folks go too small the first time out or decide to go to a race converter after less than a year. Keep your eye on the classifieds and find a low mileage 2800 - 3500 stall.
BTW, with a LM and a converter, your car will be much louder.

I've got to mention http://www.edgeracingconverters.com
I have a Street Edge 9.5" 2800 stall in my '96 Vette. According to all my data logging numbers it's no less than 95% efficient. They're built well and reasonably priced. Customer service is excellent.
