Default novice question

if you are going to launch aat 1,000 rpms, then what is the point of getting a converter that stalls to 3600rpm's?

When you get a converter you can lauch it that much higher in the powerband. That means a harder launch because your launching with more power that before. Someone correct me if im wrong, but I think thats preety much it <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

The reason for buying a converter with a higher stall is very easy. When you Launch at the track your converter does whats called flashing. This is revving to the stall point before the car really gets moving. So if you have a stock converter (With a stall rating of 1800) and you launch from 1000 rpms you car will be pushing from 1800 to 6000 rpms. With a converter of a 3600 stall, as soon as you floor it the rpms jump to 3600 and then you rev from 3600 to 6000. Which as the previous reply to your post stated gets you into the power band faster. This is also the reason why you need a good set of tires if you have an aftermarket converter. You can almost think of it as the automatic equivalent of "dumping the clutch". I think that should answer your question. If I'm wrong someone please correct me. And if you have any other question I will try and answer them.

Thanks
Rob

Robs right on. It gets the car into the powerband to eliminate a bog....it is the automatic equivilent of dumping the clutch.
