Default 4l80e and "the ear"...

So I finally got headers that will bolt up, but now on drivers side, about 1/2" from end of header (shorties) is the ear on my 80e. I think I can get the collector on if I cut the ear off.
Is this a good idea? If I am careful will it hurt anything?
I'd post pics but my batteries died, so won't have any til tomorrow.

We cut the flanges off of transmissions frequently... anything that has headers get's whacked.

Handle it dude!

Be careful to not throw debris into the bellhousing area. Take your time, don't let the cutter get away from you... it could get fugly quick!

ok,
after doing some searching again...maybe I jumped the gun a little.
I said "ear" and I thought that is what I meant?
I wish I had a pic, but where the bellhousing meets and that protrusion that sticks out where the two surfaces meet. I think there is a dowel and I know there is an empty bolt hole. Is this safe to grind off? I'll try and get some pics tomorrow. I already started grinding, does not look like it will hurt as long as I don't go too far.

You'll be fine. I had to cut mine to clear.

If you'll "draw" a line down the side of the block and cut it there you'll be just fine.

As a side note... be sure to chamfer the corners where you cut. Otherwise you might just draw back 1/2 a knuckle next time you're under there doing the next job! Been there, done that and I'm still sportin' the scars!
