Does anyone have this combination? If so, what are your impressions and results? Would 3.42 gears be better?
On another forum the talk is SY3500 and 3.42 gears are a great street/strip set up for a C5. Would this be the same for a Z28?

One of the reasons 3.42s are so popular with A4 C5s is that they're readily available (hence cheaper) being standard on MN6 cars. For a long time, there were no options other than the $$$ Mallett 3.73 part. It's only been in the last half year or so that other options have become available and driven prices down.
I have 3.73s and SY3500 in my C5, it's a nice street racing setup. I like it on the street quite a lot but am swapping the SY for a SS3800. If I were staying with a SY style converter, I'd probably move up to a SY4000.
How do you want to use the car? What compromises are you willing/unwilling to make?

I've got the SY-3500 (put in at the 1,500 mile mark) and 3.73s in my 12-bolt on my T/A. It's a nice combination for fun on the street and weekend warrior track use.
I've turned quite a few 1.58s 60's on the ET Drags with the MTI 422 NA. We're going to see what happens with the NX MAF kit this spring. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I have the same gears, converter & almost the same motor (MTI 427). My best 60' was 1.9x launching from idle on ET streets.
Can you share your launch techniques? what ET & trap did you make? thanks

First and foremost the car is gonna be a daily driver...driven in snow as well...with some all season tires. For the summer I plan to get some DR's. I really have no idea what the most practical set up would be for someone that doesn't do a whole lot of racing yet wants a car that can haul *** if the need arises. I don't want anything that will grenade my 10 bolt either. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

Get a SS3600-3800 and leave the rear gears alone. The high STR will forego the gear change and be readily drivable as a daily driver.
A SY3500 without a gear change will be pretty loose in comparison.

I love my SY3500 and 3.73 combo. 1.66 60' on Nittos, lowered, full interior, almost #3700. I find them perfect for street, strip and everyday driving.

Is the midrange torque advantage of the SY3500 noticeable over a Vig3200?
What would cut a better 1/4 mile time...3.73 and a SY3500 with DR's....or a 2.73 or 3.23 and a Vig3200 with DR's?
I like the idea of a broader torque curve for everday driving as long as the difference in 1/4 mile times isn't drastic.
Isn't the SY3500 better from a roll because of the lower STR?
I know these questions are rather specific, but any ideas (educated guesses) are appreciated.

I'd say the advantage of the Vig at launch (with enough tire) would be noticeable. That Vig is similar to Yank's ST3500, now more or less replaced by the new SS3600. Sounds a bit like you want to have your cake and eat it too.
You might check out some of the dyno comparisons at Yank's web site.
