late 4l60e on gen1 small block
late 4l60e on gen1 small block i know this is a LS1 site but i figured you guys might would have a better chance at answering me.
i have a 71 nova that i have done a TPI conversion on. it has a later style gen1 engine with the centerbolt covers and one piece rear seal. well i know were i can buy a 4l60e from a 98 firebird with an LS engine. what i would like to know is will this tranny work on my engine. i know that the converters are different for an LS engine, but i want to know what is different about them?

The converter pilot is too long and wont allow the converter to mate to the flex plate. But seems like it would be easier to just get the style 4l60e that comes from behind the gen 1

yeah i know, but this guy had this trans and i can get it for a good price so i was wanting to see if it would work. could i use a converter from a later model truck that had the gen 1 style engine, with this style transmission
No you have to use the LS1 trans with the LS1 converter,I imagine a frankensien converter could e made I know we made one for the astro dyno when we were using it so we could run lsx trans behind the 4.3 .

ok thanks for the reply. i have read from many sources that say the internal parts in the later transmissions are stronger. would it be worth while to get the trans and use the internal parts in an early tranny or would i be wasting both time and money??
