say im getting into a 45mph hour roll race in my a4 342 (not stock) rear end...are you guys saying that every time i would drop it to second to not wait that extra second for the car to drop from 3-2 is affecting my tranny...i always do it...every time i race from a roll i drop the gear to my power band which is 4k+ if possible most of the time that means dropping it to 2nd manually, holding it till the race begins, floor it then immediately throwing it into 3rd. is this bad???

When racing a 4L60E unit, do not use the "D" (3rd gear) position. The overrun clutches are not on till you go to 3rd gear. Either manually upshift it through the gears, or leave it in "OD" (4th gear) position. In the 700R4, this was not true. All three positions "1", "2", or "3" the overrun clutch was on. The "D" position in the 4L60E will rob you of the 3-4 clutch apply oil, as it will bring on the overrun clutch during the 2-3 shift.
