Default Late 4th gen/silverado 4l60e in early 4th gen?

My tranny blew out in my 94 camaro. From what I though I've heard I can only use 93-97 4l60e's. So I was just making sure that that's true. Or can I swap one out of a late 4th gen or silverado?

You cannot easily do it not saying it cant be done but not likely worth the trouble stick with what fits your car.
Your best bet would be to get a built unit from either us or one of the other sponsors. Good used 94 unit is going to be hard to find and so you will know the 93 from a truck will work but not a car they didn't have a 4l60e. and the 95-97 is different again as they had PWM so really your looking at 93 truck 2wd or a 94 car only to fit without moding anything electronics or valve body.

so my buddy has a 4l60e out of a 1996 Chevy 1/2 ton truck. Would that work? Would the gears be different? Its out of a low mileage truck and I know its a good trans.

It can be made to work but you would have to do some valve body modification for the PWM since the 94 does not have that system and without the mod you would have no lockup.
