Default 2000 trans am ws6

What is the proper way to check transmission fuild in a 2000 ws6 automatic. I did what it said in the owners manual. And according to that method my transmission has way to much fuild. So i have not been driving it. Any suggestions??

You should be checking it -car at operating temp, running . pull the trans stick should be at or near the top of the crosshatch .

Whenever I check mine there's fluid all over the stick so it's impossible to tell if it needs fluid or not.
