2.73's and a big stall

2.73's and a big stall I am a full bolt on car with a pig cam. I have a TCS 4400 about to be installed. I know it will be loose, but i do not mind as i mostly see highway miles. What will I gain going with some 3.42s or 3.73s? The reason i ask is because I always hear people say that gears are not worth it. Does anyone have experience with a 4000+ stall with 2.73s?

Re: 2.73's and a big stall I am running a TCS4200 2.7 STR with 3.73s. If not just for performance the bigger gears are worth it from a driveability stand point alone. My car is a pleasure to drive not too much looseness. I have a C5 with heads and cam I run ET Streets so traction shouldn't be a major issue with my car. The 3.73s also make my car a beast from a roll.

Re: 2.73's and a big stall Going from 3.23s to 3.73s with a big stall only produces a .1 gain so I wouldn't expect any more than a .2 gain going from 2.73s to 3.73s with that monster.

Re: 2.73's and a big stall I have a 24K cooler. I was asking because my friend has 3.73s with a stock stall, and he has a hard time with traction as it is. I also don't see a nice gain with gears although i might go with 3.42s. How will the 2.73s do from a 50mph or highway roll? Thanks
Re: 2.73's and a big stall with a big stall, the 2.73s will pull hard in 2nd even at 50 mph. The stall will drop the motor high in the power band and provide some torque multiplication to around 70 mph so you'll notice a solid gain.

Re: 2.73's and a big stall I pulled out my 3.23 and installed 3.73. I hate it. i wish I would have spent the cash for a good converter instead. I like hitting 160 when I want and now I run out of rpm before I get there. I also lost 4 mpg on the interstate. I drive from Odessa texas to New Orleans every week and the loos in mpg and the gas prices chap my ****. When i get my converter I am going to try it with the 3.73 I already have in it at the track and then switch back to my stock 3.23 and take it to the track. If there is hardly no difference I am going to leave the 3.23 in it. It would have to make a .3 second difference for me to keep the 3.73 in it.

Re: 2.73's and a big stall I think i'm leaning towards the 4200/2.7str with my TR230/224 cam and *GASP* 2.73 gears! The Yank 2800/3.0str isn't enough stall for this cam by any means!
