Default Identifying a 4l80?

Did a search and didnt find anything, is there a good site for finding out what year my 4l80 is? By numbers on the tranny or bolt holes ect......

there will be a tag on the side, it shows the year

It on the yellow tag on the side ,see here>>>

The pic is blurry, but the yellow tag has 04-4-205 , so mine is a 04 model ,What does yours have on it?

Ill have to get back to my parents house and check it. But that tag is on it, ill check it tomorrow, thanks!

Dont know if this will help but the tranny line thats right above that white sticker with 4MJP, my other cooler line is right above it. Not back by the tail like yours.

the older 4l80e's had the rear cooling line closer to the front-also the older models dont have the 12 o'clock bolt hole

Ok mine has 94-4021 on that tag.

Nice, are the mounting holes for the ls motors a big deal or should I not worry about it.

The obvious is the 12 o'clock bolt hole. I personally like to have the Ls1 case so you can use an inspection cover that will bolt to your engine oil pan and also the trans case for more added support. However there are many guys running Th350 and Th400 transmissions not using that 12 o'clock bolt hole. Good luck with your project. Vince

i dont think you use the 2 o clock bolt hole either, at least my lq4 was not drilled, so an older case you will only use 5 bolts

Do thay make a dust cover that will bolt to the LS1 style oil pan ? or is it a one piece bell housing.

It doesn't bolt to the oil pan but there is an aluminum one and a stamped steele one.

Old post I know but trucks and vans with the 4.8/4L80E, and 5.3/4L80E have an aluminum cover that bolts to the trans and oil pan.
