Default Transmission Trouble...Need a little help

I swapped a 1999 ls1 into a 2000 camaro that had a 3800 v6 motor in it. I also reused the 4L60E that was behind the v6 but changed the bellhousing and input shaft to one that would accomodate the ls1. Then i bought a stock torque converter from a member that i believe was from a 2002 trans am. And the final thing i bought was a flexplate off of ebay that said it was for an ls1 but i am not exactly sure if it is.

Now after all that I'm having trouble with the tranny. The torque converter and flywheel turn with the motor very smoothly but the tranny wont spin once i put it in gear and im not sure what the problem is.

There is enough fluid in the tranny and converter (11 quarts) but i dont know whats going on.

I did notice that when i mated the tranny and engine the torque converter pads were around 1/2 inch to an inch away from the flexplate and when i tightened the converter to the flexplate it pulled it off the input shaft about that much.

So im not sure what i need to do. Also there is tranny fluid slowly leaking from the bellhousing/torque converter area. I'm not sure why if i used all "OEM" parts that it would have pulled the converter off the shaft.

SOrry for the long post but it would be greatly appreciated if someone would help!!!!

All I really need to know is if I put like a flexplate spacer on the crank do you think that will make the converter engage on the input shaft?

Quick question I know you said you changed the input shaft and the bell housing but what about the pump stator it too was different?

I didn't change the pump...it fit without it so I didn't think I needed too...and when you say pump stator is that all one piece (the front pump) or is it the pump and then the stator?

Let me know and if that would cause it to not spin the shaft or something

Thanks!

Well it would certainly be at least part of your problem the stator is not long enough to engage the converter I have never done this or seen it done but I would imagine it would cause a no movement condition or little movement.
The stator can be pressed out of the pump but you would be better to have the correct pump but I can say this most be corrected

Ok well I found one on eBay for $50 for pump and statorbut not sure if it is the right one. I asked him what car it came out of but he hasn't answered yet

How much would one run me if I bought it from you?

I want to go cheap because I am going swap a TH400 in it soon but would like it to run in the mean time as I'm researching and buying the necessary parts for the swap

The wrong stator is definitely your issue as Frank mentioned. I have seen it done and a no movement condition is what happens. Good luck. Vince

Is there a way to tell if it has the right stator (like the length or something). If i dont need a new pump i could buy a new stator that is the right length? or am i going to need a whole new pump and stator?

I need the cheapest solution (under $50 preferably)

I don't think that is the right pump. It should say 13V on the rear part of the pump. I will try to take a measurement from the front pump seal to the tip of the stator shaft for you tomorrow and post back here for you. If you do buy a stator it needs to be a 300mm stator. Vince

And if i just bought the stator it will work right or is the pump not going to flow fluid or something weird?

Wrong input drum if you are using an LS1 bell.

Well would that be the problem then (just input drum) or should i go ahead and get both the drum and pump/stator?

Thanks for all the help by the way!!!

Yes sounds like you have it all wrong there thats the wrong input drum and you have the wrong stator plus with the LS1 bell and the LS1 converter you will be lucky if you haven't damaged the converter.

I hope i havent damaged the converter either but as far as i know nothing sounded like it was messing up. It sounded like it was just spinning freely with the flywheel
