I'd take a 300lbs lighter car any day over 100rwhp. Power is easy to add.
Dropping 300lbs isn't, unless you want to drive a gutted out POS.

I love the new camaro...but am pissed by the weight gain...that is going to **** up its transient maneuverability.

As for the Gt vs RS debate...the V6 will weight more and have less torque...so unless your GT driver is an abecedarian this is a moot point.

How dare you care about overall feel of a car, and being "light on its feet."

Thats the most stupid thing I ever heard....HP costs money, lots of it. For example, LS6 intake $350 for 10-15 hp. On a fbody you can descreatly and easily lose 200lbs and it will cost nothing...

you can only lose so much weight; power is nearly limitless

once you hit a certain point it is more expensive to lose weight than to gain power

Picking 300lbs less weight over 100hp doesnt make sense to me since -300lbs = 30hp?

being lighter means it responds better to just about everything

power mods go farther, braking mods do more, same w/ handling

in addition it is easier on the drivetrain to lug around less weight. axles last longer, easier on transmissions, easier on brakes etc.

If all you are doing is considering straightline speed, I have to wonder why you are spending $30k+ on a brand new car. Yes, 300lbs is in general responsible for ~30hp all other things considered. But that extra weight takes a noticeable toll on handling and braking. And you can not DISCRETELY drop 200-300lbs from an F-body without giving up certain creature comforts that most people don't want to go without.

Some people value a big weight difference over a moderate power difference.
Some people value how the car drives and performs not a number on paper. The mustang platform may have a slight weight advantage but it is handicapped in other areas.

Check out the 370z vs GT article. The overall feel of the car was the biggest complaint of the GT. Initial reports on the new camaro suggest feel is one of its strong points. Weight is only one of many things that determines how a car will drive.

The 370Z is a sub-3400lb sports car... both the Mustang and the Camaro are not. Of course the Mustang is going to feel heavier than the 370Z. Just like I'm sure the Camaro will feel heavier than the Mustang. 300lbs is not a "slight weight advantage."
