lol we could only hope
you can bet gov't will 'restructure' them with an agenda in mind (i.e. stronger union ties, more green cars, less trucks and HP models, blah blah blah) and if the gov't feels it knows how to run this business, we will see GM and chrysler quickly fall further from where they already are. gov't doesn't belong in the auto industry

I'm confused. The Abu Dhabi government which owns an oil company has kept an italian car company from tanking?
How is that like this situation? We should have foreign powers controlling our companies?

I didn't vote for the O, but I'm happy he asked Rick to step down. He hasn't made a good move in the past couple of years. Bring in new blood if the American people are goign to keep GM alive. Rick should have stepped down on his own. That comment he made a couple of months back where he said he wasn't that GM needed "Strong leadership? this was the leadership that sank them. Bye bye.

I think when you manage to run something into the ground (or possibly below ground) that you should have to resign.
So I can expect all the Congressmen and women who were in office in 2008 or earlier to resign on Monday right?
Or are we doing that double standard thing.

Likewise! The government which has the worst record of running a business (In this case a country) in the red is telling GM whats best for them. I'm sure Barrack will have Al Gore to Head GM!
Ive never been a big Wagoner supporter, but there are hundreds of replacements that will be potentially worse. I can see it now; Wagoner's replacement with an Al Gore agenda! Scrap the Camaro; the Corvette and any LSx powered vehicle. Our LSx powered vehicles, cars and mainly the trucks, have been making more power and getting better gas mileage year after under Wagoner. The replacement for Wagoner is a wild card and could be far worse, and the market knows it.

I see lots of people bitching about what the government is doing to try and save the company that everybody here rants about going under, but nobody providing a reasonable alternative. You can't complain about the government making suggestions/critiques/conditions for how a failing company should improve when they are being handed $20 billion. Would you rather them let the company die? You can't have your cake and eat it too.

"Look at ferrari, its the largest car manufacture in Italy, and in ratio of population, square miles, and number of employees, it would be similar to GM or Ford in the United States. Ferrari is owned actually as a branch of an oil company who is owned by the government of Abu Dhabi."
Actually, Fiat is the largest Italian car manufacturer, they own Ferrari, and Maserati, among others. Ferrari is not owned by an oil company from Abu Dhabi. A company named Mubadala which is an investment company owned by the Government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi sponsors the Ferrari F1 car.

Back to GM, I think that many would suggest that the root cause of the issues in Detroit are a direct result of the unions.
