Corvette C6-R Wins 24 of Le Mans
#7
Great win despite Magnuson wrecking the other Vette; 74 car. Congrats to the Robertson's, as well, who took third in the AM class in their Ford GT, while attending for the first time @ LeMans.

Not in this class. This new GTE class was the GT2 class that Corvette joined last year & had a woeful season. Corvette had previously one in the GT1 class @ LeMans where most of the time they had only 1 or 2 competitors to beat.
Magnuson screwed the pooch in the 74 car while running first. He's a bit wreckless. So, the 73 coming out of 3rd to win the class for Corvette is an awesome accomplishment. The GTE class is full of capable rivals.

Didn't a Corvette also win at this LeMans in another (more street car based) class as well?

Yah & unfortunately two different Ferrari amateur drivers wreaked havoc on two of the three Audi prototype R18's. I don't know where the idea of amateur drivers sharing the track w/pro-driven prototype "rocket ships" came from, but, the concept needs to be reviewed. Same track, same car, yes; same track, prototype car vs GT car, pro/amateur, no, no, no. If the nasty wrecks that happened aren't enough to prove why it's a bad idea, then I guess not much will.

Yah, @ LeMans, a lot of them were amateurs w/ a racing liscence. Some of the pro drivers dropped out of the race due to the lack of qualifications required in order for the amateur drivers to compete.

the first wreck was an overly aggressive driver doing something stupid.

I understand both of your points (both posts directly above), but don't agree. We'll leave it at that, 'cuz we'll always have differing views regarding the accidents. One thing that we can agree on, hopefully is that the safety of the Audi R18 cockpit saved the drivers' lives in both cases.

umm those wrecks were both the fault of the audi drivers not the ferrari's. slower cars have right of way, they cant always see when they are being overtaken but a faster prototype car ALWAYS knows where the slower car is and should decide where to pass accordingly. bad decisions caused those wrecks.

The Ferrari driver was at fault.
