The reason it might be underrated is the 2010+ 5.4L with that blower and at 15 PSI is good for right around 650whp(like was said earlier in this thread). So it's either a tune away from making big power, or is already making more than they are saying.

Either way, if someone would have told any of us 10-15 years ago that the top dog Mustang would be making 650hp stock and top out over 200mph, we would have told them they were ******* crazy.
The SAE standards were revised in 2007. The new certification is witnessed by an independent engineer and the motor is guaranteed to make within 1% of the advertised rating. Go take a look at it if you get some time...the new rating method is far different.

If a new car receives the current SAE certification it is not under rated. Period.
Some ls3 camaros have dynoed 39x rwhp stock...some have dynoed as low as 35x. It is dyno variance etc.

so this from motortrend is whp, or chp?

2011 Mustang 5.0 (4th gear pull, 15% powertrain loss)
Claimed horsepower: 412 hp @ 6500 rpm
Claimed torque: 390 lb-ft @ 4250 rpm
Actual horsepower: 435 hp 6500 rpm
Actual torque: 404 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm

i thought they rated at the crank, but the way they phrase that it looks like whp.

5th gear is one to one in the new mustang. That is one flaw with that test.

two..that was just their guesstimation going on the rwhp numbers. Nothing but a guess. The motor is SAE certified under the revised 2007 standards at 412hp. It will make within 1% of that. The reason the 5.0 dynos more or less the same as an ls3 camaro is because it is not turning an irs or 20 inch wheels.

i wasnt giving too much weight to their claim of 435. just as chevy wouldn't step on the corvettes toes with the camaro, i think ford won't step on the boss's toes with the gt.....and if the gt truly made 435, then either it'd be too close to the boss, or the boss would be way under rated.

They could legally rate the camaro at 426 and the vette at 430 (it is within 1%) And that is exactly what they did. The ls3 in the vette and camaro are identical. Besides the GS ls3 which has the zo6 oiling system and is hand built. Some say they are built with tighter tolerances and make a bit more hp.

I tell everyone this from time to time. Do some google research on the new SAE standards. You will then laugh at all the threads of people talking about under rated cars that are 2007-2008 and newer. It is nothing more than dyno variance. Hell....my car dynoed 7rwhp different on back to back pulls on the same dyno. A chassis dyno is a horrible way to guess a cars crank hp.

That just means it's more than likely going to see HUGE gains from just a tune and simple bolt-ons.

What recent supercharged motor hasnt? 03 cobras gained ~80 rwhp from a pulley and tune. Thats the nature of a factory supercharged car.

The zl1 will benefit likewise...but the bottom end will hold it back in comparison to the gt500.

I'm saying it's detuned for the boost level it's at stock. You don't add .4L of displacement to a motor and make ~75-100hp less, as the 5.4L with just the new blower at the same boost makes 650 at the wheels, unless they aren't really making 15lbs of boost like they said.
