5.0 liter NA frpp cobra jet makes ~700hp

this is not the limit.
it uses stock boss 302 heads, stock Boss cams, and american racing headers.
with larger valves, bigger cams, more is availble.

With a brand new generation of Mustangs looming on the horizon, you would think Ford would start pulling back when it comes to the power and performance of the outgoing Mustangs. But you’d be wrong. Take the 2013 Mustang Cobra Jet, which clicks off a 0-60 mph of 2.57 seconds and can run the quarter-mile in the high 8-second range at over 150 mph. That’s going to be a hard act to follow.
At the heart of the Cobra Jet’s success is a 5.0 liter V8 that comes in naturally aspirated and supercharged flavors. Ford Racing recently took one of the naturally aspirated models and strapped it to an engine dyno. If you’ve ever wanted to hear this engine in its most raw and primal form, here’s your chance.
Tested on Ford Racing’s 17G dyno, you would think we’d get dyno numbers to go along with this video. Alas, that is not the case, as the dyno numbers are not yet being released (most likely due to the highly-competitive nature of this vehicle). However, we can infer from previous passes at the drag strip that the naturally aspirated Cobra Jet 5.0 is making in the range of 600 or 700 horsepower at the crank.
The video itself is rather revealing as well. For a full 30 seconds, the 5.0 liter Cobra Jet engine revs higher and higher. Eventually the headers even begin to glow red from all the spent horsepower exiting through its pipes. The sight is at once inspiring, awesome, and a little scary. We wouldn’t want to run up against any Cobra Jet-powered car at the drag strip. That’s just an embarrassment waiting to happen.

fords new mod motors are impressive even the 4.6 can be built to over 1000 HP if desired

i went to the frpp site and read the design in last month's 5.0 magazine.
whats more to it is everything else is modded. the areas for further improvement are heads, cam, headers.
the intake manifold is designed to make 750hp on a cobra jet 5.0.

"When we calibrate the Cobra Jet, we sweep it at every 500-rpm increment all the way up to 8,000," Rob added. "We sweep the exhaust cam and find the optimum spot, and we sweep the intake cam to find the optimum spot. Sweep the spark timing and optimize that, then sweep the fuel and optimize that."

dont woryy it can only make more HP however not many can afford this one they are availible but the price is unbelievable they were built with one thing in mind and that is power and more power

for reference the stroke is roughly .1" longer than a 350 chevy.
cost was a consideration in every aspect.
for example, porting the heads from stock 190cc to 200-210cc's and 240* @ .050 duration and 13mm lift cams would do wonders for 9100rpm power. using exotic I-beams would go even further.
they limited it to 8100. of course it loses NO torque from a stock Boss302. going to 9100 would lose gobs of torque even with variable cams.

^^^^ Very true but remember a lot of today's "stock" parts are better then alot of "race" parts just a few years ago which is great for us but not so much for the after market suppliers because there having to work harder and harder every year to make power over the stock parts.

This new engine is .... outstanding. About 2 weeks ago, people were still saying there's no way a 5L would break 550hp N/A... Today that line may as well change to 800hp. It's a serious engine, to say the very least.

I feel the 5.0 could make more then 550 n/a and still be street worthy but this motor has crossed over to full race which is a different argument altogether. But you are right it's a nasty motor in stock form and modding it only makes it better.
