Yes, as delivered, but that hardly matters because the 5.4L can be built, by Ford, to make plenty of power, if they want to do it. 385hp in 2000 was no trouble. I'm fairly certain that 450 in 2012 wouldn't have been a big deal. The idea though, is just to consider the pricing level, had they stepped it up as Chevy did with the Z/28.

Do you honestly think the 5L can match power output of the 5.4 and/or 5.8L? I don't. Not that it matters much, but the point remains. Ford may or may not have gone over the edge, like GM did in regards to pricing. I think probably not, since the 5L was so new that they could justify a really higher price.

The Boss 5.0 is a high revving forged internals engine that can trap 114mph bone stock. I imagine it can handle some boost with ease. Like the Z28, it is a low production car that was built to have fun out of the box on a road course. It MSRP'd for $30k less than the Z28. A tuned Boss can put a ZL1 in it's place on the street. I don't see the Z28 outrunning a Boss in your average street encounter.

Street encounter, like a drag race? That's asking a whole bunch from a 5L Mustang.

Boss makes ~450rwhp with smart bolt-ons, and it loves boost. Now if they could make 5.0-style heads for the 5.8 that would be a screamer, but a 2V 5.8 just ain't gonna cut it.

I consider an "average street encounter" to be something along these lines.

Is there a 2V 5.8L? I don't mean the old long ago retired Windsor engine, but the current 5.8L used in the GT500. Do they use that in anything else? The old one powered Mustangs well into the 6's though, so it's not slouch.

Well okay then. That's a little different and still, I think it's asking much... The Z/28, I definitely expect to be quicker than the ZL1.

Anyway, we've noted the most important factor... We're not likely to see the Z/28 on the street.

Looking at the power to weight, I don't see how you can think the Z 28 will be quicker than a zl1 in a street encounter.

I wasn't actually talking about a street encounter. That said, a decent driver should have far less trouble dispensing the power of the LS7 than anyone with a more powerful supercharged engine due to all that low end torque. The 28 some 75hp short and apparently weighs hundreds less. I like those odds.

Silly me, I had the 6.2 in my head for some reason. And I know how quick the old mod motors have been, but I also know that the 5.0 holds its own QUITE well.

Oh.. I'm impressed with the 6.2L even though it's really a big block. It revs well and has made probably 900-950hp N/A (guessing) and hasn't really been seriously used by racers. That's an engine that could truly use 4V heads! I could see it making well over 1,000hp without a problem and without a power adder. I've read rumors, but I really can't say I think Ford is doing that.

I should be sure to note: That engine wasn't really a 6.2L... It was a 7L I think, stroker for sure.

Next ZO6 power figures leaked - 620hp and supercharged.

No way they will be selling that for 75k. It will probably kiss the 100k mark if not more.

That almost surely means we can completely wave goodbye to any future ZR1.

Or it will be a limited production "track only" car, like the Z/28.

It's great and it sucks at the same time. We've all been beggin GM over the years to build cars that can pounce on the competition that is is a no-holds bar take no prisoners car and when they do they are priced above what most of us would feel comfortable spending. A bit of a double edged sword really but still very happy that they are building something like this.

Better they build it and price it high than not build it at all really.
