There was an article in HotRod decades ago about a NASCAR team that built a car which officials did an inspection on. Nothing was incorrect after the teardown. They were still suspicious and so placed the fuselage templates on the shell. The car was slightly smaller in overall length and width. Instead of 1:1 more like 1:.90. Smaller car, less drag=more efficient.

Well they were caught.
