This is a poor replacement for the LS1 though. This is going to be the base Camaro V8 engine. I am guessing that these engines will be spruced up a bit for a camaro though, I HOPE!

Why a flame war??? I am just reporting what I have read on different sites. The Z will be the top dog. It was back in the day and it will be in the future. Shoot the 4th gen Z was a lighter vehicle than the SS, and seeing as they are better cars, in 1LE trim the Z was a better vehicle (performance wise).

Actually the 1st gen Z28 was faster than all of the other Maros. It was a factory race car. Read some of the mag articles of the day or talk to people that were there and they treated the Z like some sort of supercar, in fact that is what Hot Rod Magazine called it. It was the car back then and was underrated by about a hundred hp.

at the thought of a Malibu Maxx SS
Anyway, logic would dictate that it wouldn't make very much sense to have the SS be the top dog variant of each model except for one now would it? Then again we're talking about GM here, the same company that almost canned the C5 Corvette project in the mid 90's, did not know how to market the F-Bodies worth a damn, and badge engineers the sheezy out of everything so what do I know.

Just read a very interesting book called the 22 Immutabel Laws of Branding.
Info here:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846
Anyhow one of the key principles of the book is that the more "Line Extensions" you have of a brand, the less power that brand has. Slapping "SS" on everything decreases the value of the name "SS". Anyhow neat book, great read, they go a long way to slam Chevy though and their marketing, and IMOHO they had a lot of valid points about the Chevy brand.
Pretty much they claim it's a weak brand because it doesn't describe anything. Which is true since a "Chevy" is an cheap expensive small large car or truck.. Conversly a "Ferrari" has a very clear image in your mind.
Neat book.
