Zeta Not the End of RWD Performance
By Bob Lutz
GM Vice Chairman
Some news broke today about a reshuffling of our product plan, and I just want to clear one thing up before people get carried away.
Yes, we have canceled our plans to build rear-wheel-drive vehicles off the Zeta architecture. But that does not mean we've canceled plans to build rear-drive vehicles altogether.
We did not cancel the Zeta plans to save money, or to divert funds elsewhere that would've been used for product development.
We are simply reallocating resources (human and financial) to pull some other programs ahead and get other vehicles to market sooner. The press speculates this means we're doing it to get our next-generation large SUVs and pickups out sooner. You could see how one might reasonably come to such a conclusion.
Rest assured, we remain committed to developing RWD, premium,
high-performance, affordable vehicles, perhaps even a few with a trace of nostalgia baked in.

LUtz is a bad man. shut up or put up a car that is worth buying. is he blind? and the ECOTECH is not the "new smallblock", although it can be a capable engine when done right.(i saw in person a 700hp turbo ecotech engine at a certain southern california shop).

Doublespeak IMO, Lutz tells us how he hates retro yet tells us about "nostalgia" , methinks he is starting to see the bigger picture and the error of his previous ways. Still, I don't believe anything coming out of any GM exec's mouth until I see physical proof, I've been lied to before.

Bob Lutz sucks. I read that he didn't like the Chrysler 300C and wouldn't have let that design go into production...wow, good call Bob, they're not selling any of those. The cars Lutz does like such as the La Crosse are boring and bland and nobody buys them. They need to get somebody in there who is willing to do something different.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see IF any car like the Camaro goes into production, if they back out again , they're really gonna shoot themselves in the foot.

IMO, if it's got an SS badge on it, it needs to be RWD, have a V8 producing at least 350 and would make anyone think twice about trying to race it on a Saturday night. For instance don't call it a Camaro and than stick some 4 cyl ecotec in it. I think if they had gone through more planning stages with cars like the Solstice to engineer it with RWD and a V8 they would be able to sell like hot cakes.
