Not completely, for example the Shelby has an iron block and the GT has the much lighter aluminum block.

Screw that, I would preffer having 200 pounds taken off the nose than the ability to push 600RWHP. That's my #1 complaint about the 2003+ Cobra. Too heavy (come to think of it that's my #1 complaint on the GTO as well).... not that my M3 is a lightweight at 3500 pounds mind you,

Same here. The iron block is cheaper. That's why Ford went that route.

My car weighs 3,640lbs with a full tank of gas. 400lbs too much IMO.

Agreed, with ~400 pounds less weight not only do you get better acceleration but the handling and general dynmics of the car are in a whole `nother leauge...... Ahh C6-Z06..... how I dream of you.....

isn't the shelby that's going around right now pretty much a completely one-off car? it's similar to what's going into production but with quite a few details (such as funtional hood scoops) that won't make it, and other things that may change the weight/driving characteristics one way or the other, at least from what i've gathered......i may be wrong.......

The one we're seeing is the concept, altho the production model is only supposed to differ in minor details, if any. Functional hood scoops might be one thing, as well as diff wheels, or some emblem moving etc. But ultimatley, what we're seeing is what we're going to get.

The C6 Z06 is greater than the GT500 Shelby Cobra in more ways than one...

C6 Z06 > GT500

$75,000 > $40,000

7.0 Liter > 5.4 Litre

11.5 sec 1/4 > 12.5 sec 1/4

I was hearing that it's in the neighborhood of 3800 pounds, don't know if that's dry or weight. On a side note can anybody confirm the $75000 price tag on the zo6, i've been curious to see what it's going to run.

The best rumor I've heard so far (from CorvetteForum.com) is $58K for the Base 1LZ trim and $65K for the 2LZ trim. With all options, fully loaded around $70K out the door. Dealers will get 2LZ allocations first then as winter sets in, they'll trickle out the "stripper" Z06's.
